Think Green
Since 2005, Think Green has challenged grade six students at local elementary schools to think and act as environmental leaders. Our student volunteers, in teams of two or three, run 10 weekly one-hour sessions, including teamwork and communications, marketing, and interview skills. Students are even interviewed and “employed” in their own team jobs, such as photographers or PR representatives! At the end of the program, sometime in March or April, all participating Think Green schools are brought together to Memorial University’s campus to compete in the annual Think Green Games: an afternoon of environmental games!
Schools can participate in Think Green as an optional, drop-in program for students during lunch time or as an hour session during class time. Think Green volunteers are provided with our easy-to-use Think Green Guidebook to facilitate each week’s session. Currently, Think Green is being revamped to include an even greater emphasis on energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling.
